With the Financial Services Action Plan and its follow up we can observe recently many new initiatives and regulations regarding corporate governance and capital market, which will affect also Polish market since we joined EU in May 2004. At the same time in Poland we have a process of modifying the “Best Practices in Public Companies” adopted by the Warsaw Stock Exchange. We are also moving along with the governmental strategy for capital market development – Agenda Warsaw City 2010 – which foreseen among others regulatory initiatives allowing for market segmentation and functioning of alternative markets.
Taking into account those processes The Gdansk Institute for Market Economics in cooperation with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, CA IB Investment Bank and Puls Biznesu daily is organizing the conference “Corporate Governance and Capital Market Regulation in EU – implications for Poland”, which is going to be hold on November 29th, 2004 in Warsaw. The background lectures on corporate governance will be provided by two renowned experts: Christian Strenger from DWS Investment GmbH and Erik Berglöf from SITE – both members of the European Corporate Governance Institute. Ken Rushton from the Financial Services Authority and Jon Edwards from the London Stock Exchange will provide introductory lectures on capital market regulation in the EU and UK including regulatory model and changes to the official status of Alternative Investment Market. These presentations will be followed by the discussions among market practitioners and academics about the situation in Poland.
